The wonder of sprouts By Ciara Carruthers
Over a period of 33 years, a study was done, supervised by a Dr Edmund Bordeaux Szekely. In this study, he analyzed and evaluated over 120,000 people, with the aim of discovering, once and for all, what diet is most health giving.

He separated the guinea pigs into four groups, three of the groups may not surprise you. The first three groups consisted of; 1. Bioacidic foods, which are foods that are very destructive. In this group we can safely put McDonalds hamburgers, fried meats, white bread and perhaps coffee. Foods which we know are not good for us go into this category. 2. Biostatic foods; dead foods which may not seem damaging but at the same time, provide us with little life-force. Here we have all the other cooked food we see day to day. These foods may not be evil, but nor do they benefit us greatly. 3. Bioactive foods; in this category we have all our delicious living foods; fruit, nuts, vegetables, raw fats, juices, etc...
And in the mysterious category four, we have biogenic foods. What are these foods? These are the superfoods, the super-alive foods, buzzing with energy. This category consists entirely of sprouts.
His findings are to be predicted. Those consuming a diet high in biogenic superfoods, live super-lives. Slot yourself into this group and you will find yourself with abundant energy, seeming immunity from disease, a clear and productive mind and a healthy mental attitude.
The point to take from this study is that, although fitting into the 'raw' category, sprouts are in their own league. Fruit, vegetables and fats are all essential, healthy and delicious, but if you are not consuming sprouts in your diet, you are missing a very essential element.
In fact, Dr. Szekely concluded that to reach true health, the daily diet should consist of 25% biogenic foods, 50% bioactive foods, and 25% biostatic. Naturally, no biocidic foods should be consumed.
Within a sprouting seed is contained enough energy, vitamins and minerals to create a fully grown plant. When you soak a seed, the previously dormant seed releases additional enzymes in order to facilitate growth. Once the seed begins to germinate, you have within your reach a living plant, packed to the brim with essential nutrients and abundant life-force.
Organic seeds can be found inexpensively and easily in any health food shop. If you incorporate sprouts into 25% of your diet, at a low cost you will be consuming at least 25% of your food organically.
By sprouting our foods, we gain the benefits which any raw food offers, whilst increasing the nutrient content of the food. Sprouts are in the process of growing up until the point at which they enter your mouth. Feed your body sprouts, and you feed your body life-force.
