The Start of the Raw Food Diet

The Start of the Raw Food Diet

To some of us, probably most of us, myself included, the raw food diet is a very young friend of ours. My friend has an age no greater than four years old. Four years ago is when I discovered the raw food diet, though I didn't get serious about it until quite recently. But, the raw food diet has been around a long, long time.

Well, since before we could communicate eloquently, I'm sure we were on raw food diets, though we didn't know what that was. Certainly we didn't know the alternative, i.e. the processed diet that most people are on nowadays.

The documented, active pursuance of the raw food diet, however, also stretches back further than we might think, back to the late-1800's, in fact.

Born in 1867, a Swiss physician Max Birchir-Benner, is beheld in the eyes of many to be one of the first great pioneer in the world of nutritional science. His first brush with the powers of raw food came about when, working too long and hard as a doctor, he fell sick with jaundice. With this condition, he found himself unable to eat anything. One day, while his wife was cooking, she gave him some raw apple, which to his surprise he was able to digest. He continued to eat raw apples and nothing else every day and soon came back to full health.

After this, taking care of another patient who seemed unable to digest anything, wasting away as she was, he resorted to an ancient cure written about by Pythagoras in 500 BC, which consisted of raw fruit, honey and goat milk. His patient recovered rapidly. Birchir-Benner went on to continue many patients with raw foods. In 1897, he founded a clinic in Zurich, which today continues to be greatly respected as a healing center.

Another Max, this time a Max Gerson, from Germany, was a young man, from the same era as Birchir-Benner, who was curses with frequent migraines. He had been told by doctors, 'experts' of the time, that his headaches were incurable but would probably go away by the age of 40. He, understandably, did not want to wait and so started experimenting with his diet. A milk diet did not prove successful, but, surprise!, a fruit diet did. He started with apples and then incorporated other fruits and vegetables.

He offered his cure as a suggestion to other migraine sufferers, who also found that it worked. One man thanked Gerson for the cure and then informed him that the diet had also cured his lupus, which at the time was deemed incurable. Gerson didn't believe it, but after many other similar occurrences, he was convinced that eating raw food allowed the body to heal itself, naturally.

In 1958, Gerson published and became famous for a book titled, "A Cancer Therapy: Results of 50 cases". In this book, one can see and be astounded by the power that raw food has against illnesses, even the big daddy of illnesses, cancer.

Next up, we have a woman, a woman who, in fact, fought and won against breast cancer, using raw foods. Her name was Kristine Nolfi, a Danish physician. As a last resort, she turned to raw foods. When she found, to her delight, that it worked, she went on to teach her patients of this power which she encountered. Until her death in 1957, she ran the Humlegaarden sanatorium in Denmark.

This is a mere starter list of people who have paved the way for all of us today. I'm sure there are thousands more documented cases, and probably a far greater number of non-documented cases.

There maybe are some typos, or grammar that need to be
corrected.
